Cost of Removing Asbestos for Marco Polo

Marco Polo the Venetian Merchant was said to have been offered items of clothing that wouldnt burn.

Marco when traveling through Siberia describes being offered clothing that would not burn. When offered the clothing he was originally told that the items came from the scales of a salamander. Although in Aarcos record in the Il Milione it states this was something he didnt easily believe and soon found that it was a product of the mountain.

The cost of  removing asbestos could of been very high for Marco Polo if he had continued to wear them, he may never of completed his travels and inspired Christopher Columbus to find America.

When Asbestos tile removal is needed

Asbestos tile removal may be required if the tile becomes damaged or deteriates in its condition.

Tiles can be found on house roofs, shed roofs and there are even asbestos floor tiles. They tend to be of a low content of asbestos and can be removed under local conditions.

If you are unsure as to whether the tiles you have are asbestos you can always have them tested. The asbestos materials are not too different in appearance as to what we use today so they can be difficult to detect by sight alone.

Development Company Fined for Failure to Carry out Asbestos Test

HSE has prosecuted a partner of a Kent based development company, when they found the company guilty of not complying to asbestos regulations on a site in Dover.

Failure to carry out an asbestos test and assessment of the site left the HSE with no option but to charge the contractor.

Magistrates’ Court heard that the development company who were the main contractor on a site at the Royal Oak Public House, Sandwich Road, Whitfield, Dover.

After receiving a complaint from the general public the HSE investigated and found that the site had not had an asbestos demolition survey carried out and even after an improvement notice was received the company did not carry out the report as requested.

After the hearing, HSE’s Inspector Caroline Penwill said:

“Mr Smith did not think about the risks he may have exposed his workers and members of the public to by cutting corners.

“Before anyone undertakes any demolition works they must consider whether asbestos is present and take precautionary steps such as carrying out an asbestos survey.

“The site was also very unsecure and exposed local children to the hazards of a building site. What makes this case all the more disappointing is that Mr Smith continued to work after the HSE advised him to undertake an asbestos survey.

Allan Smith has pleaded guilt and charged under Regulation 5 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 and Regulation 27(2) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007. With costs and the HSE fine he was forced to pay £14,000.00.

The importance of getting a survey is there for all to see.
