Dale Farm declared a no go zone after deadly asbestos is uncovered

The former Dale Farm traveller site has been marked as a no go area after asbestos was found on some of the bulldozed plots.

It is not yet known whether asbestos was dug up during the eviction or if it was dumped by fly-tippers afterwards. Either way, officials from the Environment Agency are urging no one to venture onto the site while an investigation is carried out.

An agency spokeswoman said: “We advised residents to stay away from the cleared area of Dale Farm as a precaution. “

When consultants visited the site to take samples they identified bonded asbestos sheeting on some plots. “

Asbestos can have health implications if broken up so people were advised to avoid any actions that might break it up or disturb it.”

Deadly asbestos panels were found dumped in a Blackpool alley

For the second time now, residents in South Shore have discovered industrial waste including asbestos sheeting dumped in the alley behind their homes by fly-tippers.

Parents were concerned that children could have come into contact with the fibres whilst playing in the alleyway.

Coun Fred Jackson, cabinet member for streets and transport for Blackpool Council, said: “All fly tipping is a crime, but this is exceptionally serious.

“It goes without saying how dangerous asbestos can be. We believe that this has been done by an organised group, and will use all methods at our disposal to catch the culprits and bring them to justice.”

Pay out after asbestos related death

A Somerset woman is to recieve £290,000 in compensation from Bristol Water following her husband’s death from cancer, which alledgedly has been proven to be linked with asbestos exposure. David Bean, from Shepton Mallet, had worked for the company as an engineer.

It was revealed that he had no protection when visiting pumping stations which had been housing boilers that were covered with asbestos cement lagging.

Bristol Water said “stringent safety measures” had now been introduced for staff working with asbestos.

Asbestos exemption to ‘no-win, no-fee’ changes concerning Mesothelioma

A justice minister has said that sufferers of asbestos-related cancer will initially be exempt from government changes to “no-win, no-fee” rules.

Jonathan Djanogly revealed there would be a review of the changes, which will see successful claimants pay part of their damages to their solicitors.

Peers and campaigners say mesothelioma victims should be exempt because the illness’s severity is indisputable.

The changes to no-win, no-fee are designed to prevent lawyers claiming “success fees” from the losing side.

Instead, it will see them receive a share of the compensation – up to a maximum of 25% of the total pay-out –  given to their own client.

Government cuts for asbestos related compensation claims

Workers with illnesses linked to asbestos are dying without compensation due to cutbacks put in place by the Government.

A new law to speed up compensation by letting sufferers claim from their employers’ insurers was agreed two years ago.

However, that new law will not come into force until – at the earliest – 2013, thanks to “shrinking departmental resources” at the Ministry of Justice.

In the three-year delay almost 15,000 people with debilitating diseases such as mesothelioma could die, the Health and Safety Executive has predicted.

Compensation lawyer Chris Shaw said: “The Government needs to rethink its decision. Many of these people do not have the luxury of being able to wait. It’s a disgrace.”

A new Ministry of Justice report said that tackling the severe economic situation meant “very worthwhile but less immediately pressing law reform projects have, in some cases, been delayed.”

Do I have Asbestos Ceiling Tiles?

If you have ceiling tiles that look like the following:There is a chance you may have asbestos ceiling tiles, they can be found in many places and these pictures just show what a few of them look like, if you’re in any doubt then why not have the surface tested? These products can also be found in partition walls, fireproofing panels in fire doors, lift shaft linings, ceiling tiles, soffits and panels below windows to mention only a few areas.

Don’t forget with most of these boards it is difficult to tell the difference by just visual inspection. This is why the HSE advise testing on these areas.

Halifax Company Forced to Pay Up after ‘Exposing Employees to Asbestos’

A property management company based in Halifax have been told to pay over £300,000 after being accused of exposing employees to asbestos and asbestos containing material.

MA Estates admitted breaching Section 3(1) of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974, as well as seven charges under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006.

An investigation by the HSE also discovered that the firm did not have a licence to remove asbestos, had not instructed staff in how to remove it and failed to conduct a risk assessment or asbestos survey.

Get asbestos removal in Slough and beyond

Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough, wrote John Betjeman.

If he wrote the same poem today, it’s arguable that asbestos removal in Slough would have featured prominently amidst the sparkling wordplay.

Opportunity knocks for anyone seeking asbestos services in the area.

For a modern day take on the Berkshire town, there’s no one better than The Office’s David Brent to aptly summarise the land beyond.

“My world does not end with these four walls,” Brent said. “Slough’s a big place, and when I’m finished with Slough, there’s Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell, you know, I’ve got – Didcot, Yately. You know. My – Winnersh, Taplow. And because I am my own boss, I can – Burghfield.”
